A reduced entrance number from last year saw 8 players compete this year’s event hosted at the Wessex Squash Club. Due to the reduced entry field we concluded the event in the one day and we played the Monrad system with everyone playing for their final position. The seeding’s were taken from previous competitions and league. There was one “dark horse” John Sumner who no-one had come across before.
1st Round:So the first round matches were between:
Whats this Mike tired after playing 10 games and going 2-0 down!!!! No way, pulling on reserves even the Arab oil states would be proud of he came back to win 3-2.
Another epic battle for the old stalwart saw a match that didn’t have any short rallies in it with both giving their all. John just having the legs on Clive.
Well a fiery contest at times with Mike sensing a lofty finish after only deciding to enter at the last minute. Neil managed to pull a game back but Mikes court and match presence saw out the game.
Many thanks to all who played for making it such an enjoyable and easy event to put on.Thanks to the Wessex for letting us have the event at the club.John Peirce
